Products difference
One of the main differences between HNBR and nitrile rubber is their chemical structure. HNBR is produced by saturating the double bonds in the butadiene molecule, resulting in greater heat and chemical resistance. It also has higher tensile strength, better low-temperature properties, and greater resistance to ozone and weathering than NBR.
On the other hand, HNBR has a higher percentage of acrylonitrile in its chemical structure, making it more resistant to oils and fuels. It also has good abrasion and tear resistance, making it suitable for use in high-pressure hydraulic systems, seals and gaskets.
Another difference between HNBR and nitrile rubber is cost. Since hydrogenated butadiene molecules require additional processing, the cost of HNBR is typically higher than that of NBR; however, due to its benefits, especially in applications requiring high performance elastomers, the added cost may be justified.
Product Similarities
HNBR and nitrile rubber share some similarities as far as compatibility is concerned. Both elastomers have good compatibility with a wide range of fluids, including water, air and many chemicals. However, the degree of compatibility varies depending on the specific fluid and application.
HNBR advantage
When the actual application of NBR exceeds 120℃, the double bond on the main chain, i.e. butadiene chain, is attacked by oxygen, and bond breaking occurs, so that NBR loses its high elasticity and application function prematurely.HNBR has better heat resistance, higher tensile strength, and low-temperature resistance of up to -50℃ compared with NBR.
For example, in the application of automotive components, NBR long-term acidic gasoline and 150 ℃ high temperature environment, its ozone resistance, radiation resistance is poor, has failed to meet the vehicle sealing requirements of the engine, and HNBR conventional use of the temperature can be reached at 150 ℃, and the tensile strength, aging resistance is more excellent, so the previous use of NBR production of the gear box seals, shock absorber seals and power steering oil seals are gradually changed to HNBR. Therefore, gearbox seals, shock absorber oil seals and power steering oil seals produced by NBR are gradually changed to HNBR.
