Processing characteristics of LDPE

● Low Density Polyethylene Particle has very low water absorption, less than 1/10,000, and drying procedures can be eliminated before processing.

● LDPE will be oxidized in the air, especially in the melt temperature is more dangerous, processing to minimize contact with the air, or add antioxidants.

● LDPE high crystallinity, molding shrinkage, about 1.5% to 2.0%.

● To improve the printability of LDPE products, surface treatments are often required to increase the wetting tension of the surface, the most common methods being flame or corona treatments.

● The LDPE waste flakes and trimmings produced in the process can be recycled.

Processing conditions affect the molecular orientation and density of LDPE, which in turn affects the mechanical and optical properties of the final product.The orientation of LDPE is usually formed by the freezing stress in the process of making each, increase the temperature, reduce the processing speed or increase the flow channel can reduce this stress.

Tear strength is usually low in the orientation direction and tensile strength is increased. An important processing parameter is the quench rate, which is the rate at which the molten polymer cools to a solid. Quench speeds that are too fast can reduce density and affect the mechanical strength of the product.
